El Fadrí, Castellón's free-standing octagonal stone bell tower, rising into a deep blue sky with its arched bell openings, gargoyles and small tiled roof topped by a weathervane, beside the upper façade of the Concatedral de Santa María on the Plaza Mayor, with its rose window, Gothic tracery frieze and twin octagonal turrets

Three starter samples

Begin with the one that matches your passport

Castelló draws people for very different reasons. The ceramic tile industry around Vila-real, Onda and l'Alcora employs workers from many countries, the citrus groves of La Plana need hands at harvest time, the Universitat Jaume I fills up with students every autumn, and the coast from Benicàssim to Peñíscola has its own community of homeowners. Sooner or later, each of them is asked for a NIE.

The NIE is the identification code that Spanish authorities attach to every foreign national they deal with, and the police issue it at one appointment. The form, the box to tick on the fee and the office to book all depend on your passport and on what you plan to do. We work that out with you beforehand, so that the appointment itself is the simple part.

The collection

14 samples in three series

The province of Castellón is the home of Spain’s ceramic tile industry, so this site is laid out like a tile maker’s catalogue: each procedure is a sample with its own spec sheet, set in a grid.

Series 100

European passports: EU, EEA, Switzerland

Series 200

Passports from outside the EU

Series 300

Situations, and Castelló itself

How a case is laid

Four tiles, one after the other

  1. Step 1: Tell us your passport and your plan

Write a few lines: your nationality, what brings you to Castelló (a contract, a course, a home, a family member) and the date your papers must be ready. Our email answer names the procedure that matches.

  2. Step 2: We set out your spec sheet

You receive the list: the right EX form (15, 17, 18 or 19), the box to tick on the 790-012, and every paper your procedure asks for. We fill in the forms with you and check them one by one.

  3. Step 3: We look for a date

We watch the booking system for the province of Castellón for an appointment that fits your shifts, your classes or your flights, and we read the confirmation with you, address included.

  4. Step 4: You go with a finished folder

Before the day, a short note: where to go, at what time, your papers in order and the questions officers tend to ask. Afterwards, the next pieces: the card collection, the padrón, the Social Security number.

Oficina de Extranjería · Castellón

Extranjería Castellón: three addresses, one confirmation

In Castelló, the Policía Nacional lists its procedures for foreigners, the NIE included, at two addresses: Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo 6, home of its Brigada Provincial de Extranjería y Fronteras, and Calle Río Sella 5, the Comisaría Provincial. Your appointment confirmation says which of the two to go to. Work and residence permits go through the Oficina de Extranjería in the Edificio La Pau, Calle Escultor Viciano 2, and the padrón through the Ajuntament. We help people across the city and La Plana, from the Grau and the centre to Vila-real, Almassora, Benicàssim and Borriana.

Reaching the three offices

We found no official page that says which bus, TRAM or train line reaches Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo, Calle Río Sella or the Edificio La Pau, so we name none. Plan your trip from the address on your confirmation, and leave time to find the entrance.

Why people send us their case

A finish you can check, line by line

  • Your case, not a general list

We begin with the passport you hold and the reason you are here. The form, the fee box and the office follow from those two facts, and you read nothing that does not apply to you.

  • Spanish and Valencian, explained

Many of our readers use English as a second language. We keep sentences short, and we explain each Spanish or Valencian word, from cita previa to padró, the first time it comes up.

  • Checked at home, not at the desk

Each document is held up against the procedure’s requirements while you are still at home, where a missing copy costs a trip to the print shop rather than a new appointment.

  • Honest about our place

We are a private service. The Policía Nacional, the Oficina de Extranjería and the Ajuntament decide; we help you arrive prepared, and we tell you when a question belongs to a lawyer or a tax adviser.

Where Castellón asks for your NIE

  • A contract with a ceramic tile maker
  • A season in the orange and mandarin harvest
  • A job at the port or with a logistics firm
  • Registering as a European resident
  • Fingerprints for a first TIE card
  • Signing for a flat on the Costa del Azahar
  • A place at the Universitat Jaume I
  • An inheritance or a family home in the province

Outside our catalogue

Two firms for what lies beyond the appointment

We prepare procedures and appointments in Castelló. Some plans need something else: a visa organised from abroad, or a NIE filed while you stay at home. Two independent private firms cover those needs. Like us, neither of them is part of the administration.

  • AnchorLess Visas and relocation to Castelló: AnchorLess

AnchorLess organises moves to Spain: the visa route, residence and the first practical steps, for people who want a single contact from the first question to their first weeks in the province.

  • Gestoraz Gestoraz: a NIE requested from abroad

Gestoraz files NIE requests at a distance. It suits buyers, heirs and owners who live abroad and would rather not travel to Castelló only for an appointment.

Questions

Cita previa NIE Castellón: the first questions

Questions from EU nationals · from non-EU nationals

Cita previa NIE Castellón: how do I get one?

Online and for free, in the cita previa section of sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es, the administration’s online office. Pick Castellón in the list of provinces, choose the trámite (procedure) that goes with your form, and take a date.

Extranjería Castellón: which office does what?

The Policía Nacional lists NIE numbers, EU certificates and TIE cards at Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo 6 (964 231 658) and Calle Río Sella 5 (964 469 500). Authorisations to live and work go to the Oficina de Extranjería, Calle Escultor Viciano 2, Edificio La Pau (964 759 340).

Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo or Calle Río Sella: how do I know where to go?

Your cita previa confirmation tells you: go to the address printed on it. policia.es gives the same list of procedures for both, and no official page says which takes which appointment. No opening hours are published either, so your time is the one on the confirmation.

Huellas TIE Castellón: what do I bring?

Your signed EX-17, the passport you entered with (visa included), a recent passport photo on a white background, proof that the 790-012 is paid, and your resolution if your authorisation was granted in Spain.

Certificado de registro UE Castellón: what proves my situation?

A work contract, a registration as self-employed, an enrolment with health insurance, or a pension or savings with health cover. With it go your signed EX-18, a valid passport or national ID card and the paid 790-012.

Empadronamiento Castellón: where do I register?

In the city, at any of the six Tinences d’Alcaldia (district offices) of the Ajuntament de Castelló, from Plaça Major 1 to the Grau. Walk in between 9:00 and 11:00, in limited numbers, or book a cita previa online or on 010 for later in the morning. Bring your ID and proof of the home, such as the deed or your rental contract with the latest rent receipt. Registration is free.
